You can repair your own credit. Infact the Fair Credit Reporting Act gives you the right to dispute any and all items on your credit reports that you deem inaccurate, unverifiable, or misleading. Once you call the credit bureaus and receive a credit report. You then must dispute your inaccurate information in writing. If the bureaus can not verify that the information on your reports is indeed correct, then the items you disputed must be deleted.
Disputing items on your credit is not very difficult at all. However, getting results from the credit bureaus is amazingly difficult, complex, and very frustrating. I personally had to get on some prescription medication just to settle my nerves. Just kidding, but it was very time consuming.
Most people don't know the Federal Trade Commission receives more complaints against credit bureaus than any other type of business. Some people may think like I did and that was that the credit bureaus was some sort of government agencies that were there for the consumer. I couldn't have been more wrong. The credit bureaus are primarily interested in protecting their profits. They are for profit corporations and they are looking out for numero uno. Investigating your challenge consumes their profits and therefore they do not make it easy to get their credit reports corrected . Short of sparking a mass number of lawsuits, the credit bureaus seem to do everything in their power to discourage consumers from making progress in their restoration efforts.
